We are pleased to announce that our session, “Measuring climate adaptation: from processes and outputs to outcomes and impacts,” has been officially confirmed as part of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2026.

Date/Time: 6 May 2026 from 08:30 to 10:15 AM (CEST), followed by a poster session from 10:45 AM to 12:30 PM

This session invites contributions from across the scientific and practitioner communities to advance understanding and practice in measuring and evaluating climate adaptation progress. Discussions will span multiple scales, hazards, and sectors, reflecting the complexity of adaptation challenges.

The session will explore a range of cutting-edge and practical topics, including:

  • Case studies showcasing practical experiences of tracking adaptation progress across diverse contexts
  • Development and application of adaptation indicators, with a focus on outcomes and impacts
  • Approaches to integrating multiple indicator types for more holistic assessment
  • Use of novel data sources and methods for MEL, including Earth observation, citizen science and engagement, and AI
  • Cross-scale measurement, from local initiatives to national reporting and the global stocktake
  • Addressing uncertainty, attribution, and time horizons in adaptation measurement within MEL frameworks
  • Equity, justice, and governance considerations when defining and applying adaptation metrics

A key objective of the session is to identify pathways toward robust, inclusive, and actionable adaptation metrics. These are essential for improving decision-making, accountability, and transparency within the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and broader global climate frameworks and agreements.

The session is convened by International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), with co-conveners from HEC Paris, Fresh Thoughts Consulting, adelphi, and CMCC Foundation – Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici.

The EGU General Assembly 2026 will take place from 3–8 May 2026 in Vienna and online, bringing together scientists and stakeholders from around the world.

We look forward to engaging discussions and meaningful contributions that help shape the future of climate adaptation measurement.
